Why Homebirth???

  • Having your baby at home is less risky than going to the hospital because much of the most dangerous technology employed in hospitals is not available to doctors or midwives who deliver babies at home.(1)
  • C-sections, which approaching 1 in 4 BC women get, make women up to 16 times more likely to die in childbirth.(2)

  • C-sections are not medically indicated in over 7% of cases.(3);

  • Chemical inductions, which at least of half of BC women receive, are far more painful to the mother, and says the "bible" of obstetrics: "Oxytocin is a powerful drug, and it has killed or maimed mothers through rupture of the uterus and even more babies through hypoxia [lack of oxygen] from markedly hypertonic [too powerful and long] uterine contractions".(4);

  • Epidural anesthetic, which in some centers at least 90% of women receive, are known to greatly increase the risk of birth complications like shoulder dystocia;and fetal distress, and will lead to cesarean sections and instrumental (forceps, vacuum extractor) deliveries;(5);- which carry their own array of dangers to mothers (pelvic floor difficulties, lifelong hemorrhoids, injuries) and babies (disability, permanent nerve damage, death).(6);

  • Episiotomies are done in over half of BC births- and they are not medically proven to be beneficial; in fact, cutting a woman's vagina open in birth has been proven in paper after research paper to be deeply detrimental to a woman's birth, body and emotional well-being.(7);

  • They are done as a matter of medical habit. Childbirth has been taken over medically without any regard for evidence-based medicine or women's physical integrity. (8)

  • ...effects of epidural anesthesia on newborns has shown that epidurals result in lowered neurobehavioral scores in the newborn; a decrease in muscle tone and strength...respiratory depression in the baby; greater likelihood of fetal malpositioning; and an increase in fetal heart rate variability,...(9)

  • Epidurals can prolong a labor leading to the possible need to augment labor with more drugs.(10)

  • Fetal damage can also be caused by prescription drugs, x-rays taken during pregnancy, ultrasound, and procedures such as amniocentesis, which is used to detect abnormal conditions in the fetus. (11)

  • ...children exposed to ultrasound in the womb may be developing leukemia and other cancers in higher numbers than unexposed children. (12)
